I love handmade bibs and matching burp cloths!  They can be so personal, and unique to your family.  My son had several different themes throughout his first year.  We had nautical, animal print, and sports themed sets.  He is now out of the baby stage, and we still use the burp cloths as napkins and place mats for the kids.  They even use them to clean up messes around the house.  I love that the burp cloths have lasted so long!
 
The bibs fit most babies from newborn-12 months.  Most sets have a plastic snap for bib closure, however a few have velcro.  Both bibs and burp cloths are made with cotton and flannel/terry.  They absorb very well and keep your baby and your clothes dry.  I say this from experience!  My son was a spitter.  I have washed my sets so many times, and yet they still look and work great.
